For those whose kids have read and enjoyed the Animorphs series - would they be appropriate for a 7 year old who is currently enjoying Secrets of Droon and Magic Tree House?

I would say they might be a little old for a 7 year old. The main characters are teenagers and they are dealing with some mature issues that might go over a younger kids' head. There is also some violence as the characters are fighting the aliens in each book.

It's up to you essentially; but if it helps, the Animorphs series was written for preteens aged 9-12.  Personally, I think you might want to check out a book or two yourself first and see how you feel about them because you'd know best.  Each book is also written where it could stand somewhat independently, so skipping here and there in the series could help you to get a feel for the entire series with just a few books without getting you too lost.  I suggest the first one, then one in the middle, and lastly one towards the end (but not the end)--the books are small and won't take long or much effort for you to read.
