Has anyone read anything by Anne Bishop? She was recommended to me but I don't know much about her.

She writes very dark fantasy.  Well, her Black Jewels series, for which she's known best, is very dark, romantic, and very much not for children.  Most people find it takes longer than usual to get into them but after that they're addictive.  It's a favorite series of mine!

Thanks for the help Alexis! I think I'll try her out. I put the first of the Black Jewel series books on my wish list. :)

A friend of my daughter's loaned me his copy of the Black Jewels series.  I loved it so much, I am buying them for myself.  They are definitely keepers!

I. Love. Anne. Bishop. I don't usually like anything with that much sexual content, but in these... it doesn't seem like just gratuitous explicit scenes thrown in for the hell of it, they are actual plot points. I've got most of the Black Jewels books, The Tir Alain (can't remember how to spell that just now) series, and the first two in the Ephemera series. (I'm not sure if there is going to be a third.) They're ALL on my keepers and I wouldn't give them up for anything!!! Definitely check them out if you like fantasy. -Kelly

I would also recommend the 2 books in her Ephemera series, "Sebastian" and "Belladonna".  Romantic, paranormal fantasy? Very good
