The greater part of the time has been devoted to re-arranging the collection... more »s, including the remounting of many specimens, this being absolutely necessary, in order to have all in first-class condition. Much preliminary work had to be done in the way of refitting the cork where the drawers had warped from the heat, and relining them, as in many instances the original paper had become badly soiled. The re-arranging of the collection is nearly finished, but before it can proceed farther, it will be necessary to have some new drawers. It will be also necessary to have for this purpose the drawers formerly used for Lepidoptera, but for some time past employed for the collections of Cole- optera. The necessity for more storage drawers is emphasized by the fact that during the past year there have been more students of the collection of Lepidoptera than in any previous year. In this connection it may be noted that during the year several thousand specimens have been named for various collectors, and in return for this a number of specimens have been received not previously represented in our collections. Attention is called to the fact that it is extremely desirable to further increase the collection of Lepidoptera, as there are still many portions of our own fauna unrepresented. To obtain the desirable material, field work is absolutely essential, and if this cannot be done in the Western States, work might be prosecuted in the vicinity of New York, as local material is needed, not only for our own collection, but for use in exchange.
