I deleted out the new features and they're back again. They show "currently reading" books I read nearly 2 years ago. Favorite authors is off by a mile. Where did they come up with this invasion? Anyone figure out to make the edits STICK? Not only do I like my privacy, the information they have is incorrect.

Gail

edited to add that I can no longer have my Wish List private, no matter how many times I try to edit it. Also there are books on my WL that I never added. TPTB are off their rockers. I usually go with the flow but this is enough to make spend my credits and walk.

I'm not seeing your wishlist..just the bookshelf and pm buttons. I think they're still tweaking with stuff 'cause someone posted a lot of her wl had disappeared but mine was still there. I changed the favorite authors and stuff but I doubt I keep up with it.

I'm having the same problem. No matter how many times I edit those lists, if I leave the page and come back, they're back. I don't necessarily want to hide them -- I don't mind other people seeing these lists, as long as they're correct. For my "favorite authors," PBS has authors who I've never even heard of. Interesting.

These new features would actually be kinda cool if they get the bugs out.

Can someone check to see if my WL is viewable? Now I'm worried. And though I have it set so that I'm the only one who can see it, is my phone number viewable on my profile? 'Cause it's now showing up on my personal profile view. I wish they had a public profile view so that you can see what other people see.

Gina - I was wondering the same thing.  I have my address & phone number set so only I can see it, but when I view my profile, there it is.

And the books showing at the bottom as 'Books on Michelle's wish list' aren't even ON my wish list!  lol

E.T.A. - Gina, your phone number doesn't show up for me, but your WL does.

Michelle, I can't see your address or phone number.  I can see your favorite authors, favorite books, and what you are currently reading.

Gina, I can see your email address and WL.

While I understand why some people would think the new features are cool my question is does anyone besides me really care who my favorite authors and books are?  I also wish there was a way that we could see what our profile looks like when other people view it.  I freaked out a little when I saw my address and phone number on my profile until I realized I was the only one who could see it.  Why does everything have to show when you view your own profile?  I know my address and phone number.  I am more interested in seeing what my profile looks like when other people see it.  Also so many people are asking questions about what is on their profile in the different forums you would think there would be a way to view your own profile as other people see it.  I try to delete what books I am currently reading but the same books keep coming back.  I am giving up on that.

Can someone check to see if my phone number is there?  I've changed it so that it doesn't show but I can't tell if it took.

Ugh. I don't like this.  I do like being able to disable my profile, though of course I have no way to tell if it worked. :P

I can't imagine anyone thinking it was a good idea to prevent people from seeing what the public sees so they can test their profile settings. I think that is a huge mistake on their part.

I was going to ignore all this new stuff, but now I see that I will have to check it out for privacy and accuracy.  frown

Pamela, I see your name, city/state, and web site. Along with all the book stuff. And all your friends. And your wishlist and bookshelf, etc.

They used to have a little dash   -   when you did not want to share something. Now apparently you have a P for private, which I think is stupid. It looks like a typo until you put your mouse over it and it gives you a little box.

I don't understand why they are displaying the profile information the way they are- what happened to the "view public profile" where you used to be able to view your profile the way other people see it?  There was no worrying over private information being displayed for all to see that way.  It is disconcerting to look at your profile and see your full name, address, phone number, etc., even with the notes that say that this is not necessarily what others see.  PBS could reduce a lot of anxiety (not to mention complaints) if they just put back that view public profile button.

I edited the books that were showing what I am currently reading, favorite books, and favorite authors yesterday, and it still looks like the way I edited it, so it didn't go back to the original way for me.  I do wish there was a way to change the order of how they appear though.  The books showing up on my currently reading list are pretty accurate, as they are the last 3 books I received, but I'm not reading them all at once, and they are not in the right order either.    The other lists were weird- I had to LMAO at some of what they were showing as my favorite books and authours!  They must take that info from books that I have ordered or posted in the past.  Geez, I haven't read an Ursula LeGuin book in years, but they had a bunch of the Earthsea books as my favorites, and LeGuin as one of my favorite authors, I guess because I read one series of hers years ago and posted the entire series soon after joining PBS.  Seems like they need to do some refining of this feature.

Keri, I can see your WL, friends and your location.

Could someone check my settings? It should be mostly private, but my WL should be showing.

Willa your info is private and your WL is showing.

Someone check mine please? I really just wanted to make sure no phone number or adress shows, and that my WL is viewable!

Arica - can't speak for anyone else but no, I don't really care about everyone else's favorite authors or what they've been reading. We can get all this good information on the boards. I don't have the spare time to stroll around everyone's profile page to check this information out. I'd rather be reading or reading forum messages.

And I'm thinking that those members who don't post to the forums really don't care, either.

ETA TO SAY that since everyone is checking others' profile pages, I'm hoping if anyone saw info on mine that should be private they would let me know. This is dreadful that we have to self-monitor this way. I think they should have given us the option to activate the new features if we wanted them, but left everything the way it was - let US make the decisions.

Gail

I agree Gail, if we know each other from the boards we can talk there, and if we don't know each other from the boards, why would we care about favorite books and such?

Thank you so much for bringing this up! I've been so busy lately that I didn't have a clue about the new changes.  There were authors listed in my favorite list that I'd never read before...or ever WL'd' , or been interested in any of their books!  Honestly, I don't know where they got those names.  One thing I've noticed a lot recently is the site hanging up.  It'll either freeze or take forever to navigate.  Hopefully, these glitches will be remedied soon.  wink

Ok, I just removed the tele number and anything private.

I don't seem to be able to change my favorite authors, books etc.  Any hints.  I never read the stuff they say I do and never those authors.  wonder where they got this stuff.
