Arnove was born in 1969. He earned BA from Oberlin College, and a MA and Ph.D. from Brown University, Rhode Island, where he studied in the Modern Culture and Media Program, and joined the International Socialist Organization. He worked for seven years as an editor and publisher at South End Press before becoming a freelance editor and writer moving to New York.

Arnove is best known for his books on Iraq and the Iraq War. Arnove is the author of the book Iraq: The Logic of Withdrawal, published in hardcover by the New Press and in paperback by Haymarket Books. In 2009, Arnove Co-Directed (with Howard Zinn and Chris Moore) and Executive Produced "The People Speak a documentary feature film that uses dramatic and musical performances of the letters, diaries, and speeches of everyday Americans, based on Historian Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States”.
