Anthropologists share their skills. Unlike during colonial days, the ethnographer must obtain permission from various authorities. "Sometimes permission is required from a plurality of mutually antagonistic authorities. It is commonly believed that ethnographers experience more difficulty in this matter than do their colleagues in the natural sciences. If we assert that ethnographic research can be of value to an enlightened administration, we should not be surprised that less enlightened administrators exaggerate its dangers." Extensive annotated bibliography, but only an author index.
