Fern's parents are boring, and wish that Fern was too. Fern sees things out of the ordinary. However Fern was switched at birth and finds out her dad is a very strange but interesting man and her mother is dead. Fern's father lacks confidence and a secret other ingredient, and is on the search for a book. However his rival is too looking for the book. Fern is a lovable curious girl and is very perceptive. The book is fun and a real page turner. The narrator is wacky and a little obssesed with himself in a humorous fashion.

My 7 year old daughter LOVED this book and this series and I did too. It is particularly great for a child that loves to read. She loved all the references in the story to the books that she's already read. There are also a lot of great messages in it. It encourages kids to become anything they dream of.
