We had a small discussion on one of the boards earlier on this subject!  (Lee Child's character)  I mentioned that he was my secret crush and several ladies chimed in to say that wasn't possible coz he was theirs!

Do you "crush" on your favs?

Definitely crushin' on Jack!

Of course my most recent one was Kurt in Joseph Finder's Killer Instinct.  Unfortunately Kurt was not the good guy ;-(

I haven't started my Lee Child books yet so I can't compare but have you folks read Vince Flynn?  I could oh so easily have a thing for Mitch Rapp.  I went through all nine of his books in 2 weeks.  Now I have to suffer until October when his latest book comes out ::sigh::.

Do his books need to be read in order? I have a couple I think but don't know if they're part of a series o r not. also, how'graphic' are they in the violence department?

No, they don't need to be read in order.  They are quite stand alone, and give you what little background you need in the beginning of each book.   Some books have been more graphic than others, but nothing that has really upset or bothered me yet.  He's a loner, former Army MP, and has his own sense of honor and justice.  And if you're a bad guy, he WILL take you out!     But the action and tension is amazing and Child's style of writing is terrific.   I've got a definite crush on Jack Reacher!

Ok...I'm definately going to have to start this series next.  I'm in the middle of Ted Bell's 'Alex Hawke' series at the moment.   Carol, have you read Vince Flynn?

I haven't read Vince Flynn.  Is he a social worker or something like that?  I guess I could look it up myself.....but it is easier to wait for one of you to tell me!         Lazy, huh?!

OMG...no Carol.  He's an 'unofficial' CIA operative (well, he starts out 'unofficial' at any rate).  I haven't read any of Lee Child's books yet so I don't know his writing style but I have a feeling they are somewhat silmilar.   I can't imagine you wouldn't love the Mitch Rapp character based on what little information I have about  Jack Reacher.

"Term Limits" is Flynn's first book and doesn't include the Rapp character but his subsequent books are all based on Mitch Rapp and include character's from 'Term Limits'.

For all you Reacher fans, here's an article on Lee Child that was in the NY Times a few weeks back:

Well, I just read the article and take offense at the "Don Quixote" reference!!  Obviously, the writer doesn't know that my Jack Reacher CAN do anything!   Cannot wait to get this book!

I loved this line from the article about why women readers like Reacher:

“And finally, reason No. 4, what makes Jack so attractive is the absolute impossibility of his sticking around. Affairs in the real world are messy — you get found out, you get divorced, you lose your house. But what if you could absolutely guarantee that the guy would stick around for two or three days and then he’d disappear? He’ll never phone, he’ll never write, and you’ll never see him again. That makes him the irresistible boyfriend.”
