It could burn up in a house fire. Or maybe be stolen while aboard a train to Dublin. You may, after an intense bout with syphilis, vomit all over your precious work. Some dreadful whore may use your only link to immortality as a cocaine tray. Thank God in Heaven for the almighty Xerox. Do they still make Xerox machines? Who else suffers from this most unpleasant affliction? |

I keep everything I've written not only on my computer, but I also keep print copies, too. Which is a very good thing because ten years ago my computer completely crashed and I lost everything! Fortunately, I had printed out the complete draft of my novel in a binder. Unfortunately, I didn't have any updated computer disc backups, so when I bought my new computer I had to re-type the entire novel from the paper draft! I now keep duplicate back ups... one at home and one in my safe deposit box! So I guess that means, yes, I'm paranoid about it too! |

I also always e-mail an attachment to myself and to my husband. I never even have to open it, just save it on the e-mail site. Since it's not on my hard-drive but floating around in cyberspace, it's safe from system crashes.

Keep several computer copies. I have one saved on my computer's hard drive, another on an external drive, one with Mozy online backup, and a print copy. Chances are, no matter what happens, I'll have a copy somewhere accessible.

I have a copy on my computer, a copy on a USB drive, a typed copy printed out, and the hand written copy. YES, I hand write first. I enjoy writing by hand. I have thought of making a copy to put in a safe deposit box. I would crumple to the floor and cry if I only had one copy and something happened and it was gone. That's a lot of work to be gone. |

I have done the email to myself thing, as well as have them on a USB drive, a harddrive back up, an online data storage place as well as some printed copies at home for some of my stories.. so no I am not parnoid..LOL MUCH! I have lost one story due to my computer dying and never again will that happen. Takes abit of work though to keep everything up dated. |

I keep a flash drive of all of my stuff, as well as in files on the computer, and I try to print up each chapter as I finish it. Just remembering that God is in control keeps a lot of worry out of my way. |

I'm in the habit of emailing a draft to myself at pretty regular intervals, so the odds of me losing anything are pretty low. And I back everything up to an external HD pretty frequently, so, no - I really don't worry very much. |

I would have a fear of losing a first draft if I was writing it primary on the computer. (I've been through so many annoying computer crashes & reboots.) Instead I write it down in a notebook that I keep in my room. |

I use the flash drive, a CD, e-mail them to myself, and print it out. When we evacuated for a hurricane last year, my printed copies of my manuscripts took up half my suitcase. The other ways went into the computer bag. |

Indubitably. In fact, even when I have edited a work, I have to have every single copy that I wrote of it to make sure that if I lose a part, I could retrace my steps. I have my manuscripts all over, the internet, email, paper, hard drives, at friends houses, on their computers... EVERYWHERE, but I still can't knock the paranoia that they will all disappear away. |

I have a copy on my desktop, a copy on a USB drive, an e-mail copy, and I keep a copy with online storage. I also e-mail a copy to my mom.
