I'm trying to list all of my books on my TBR pile. Mainly, I want to watch the books to see which ones get wishlisted so I can read that one next and pass it on. However, I've gotten several hundred books through this site (mainly through the book bazaar).

When posting them, you have the option of listing up to 15 at a time or even loading in a file. However, if you just want to just load them into the TBR pile, you have to do it one at a time. Unless, you use the Book List Import Bookmark. But, it doesn't work. I created a quick page with 10 ISBNs and used the bookmark. It loaded 3 of them. I noodled around with it a bit and got it to load 8. I couldn't get it to load all 10.

I was just wondering if anyone else used the feature. Hopefully someone that has gotten it to work correctly and can explain what I'm doing wrong.

I'm not sure about the way that you are using it.  However, I have used it very successfully when I'm on another site, for instance Amazon.  I pull up the Book List Import Bookmark; it lists all the books on the page I'm on; I check the one(s) that I want to add to my Reminder or Wish List,  then it adds them.  I have had a couple of times when it didn't work correctly, but that's rare.

I have a bunch of books that I want to enter into the TBR list. So, I created a quick htm file that just had the ISBNs on it. I then tried to import that list. It hasn't worked right yet.

Since you said it works on Amazon, I'll head over there and see how they list their numbers. It could be as simple as a tag that I don't know about.

I can tell you that the bookmark import will not import any ISBN that has an X on the end. It will also not import any ISBN that is not already in the database.

As a general rule, my ISBNs are listed each on a single line, in a regular .txt file, opened in the browser. Be aware, that this feature does not work with IE6, only IE7 & FF.

Other than that, I use it regularly, and import over 200-300 books in a sitting, BUT I never import more than 50 at once, because it is very important to double check that the binding and title is correct on your books as you import them, and since the import feature does not keep the books in order, it is very difficult to double check more than one page at a time, and one page is 50 books.

Here if my method: I import 50, double check them (title, author, binding, ISBN), then put them onto my Reminder list to make sure there aren't 200+ copies or such and that I really want to put them on my shelf, or to see if they are WL if I'm wanting to limit how many I have to mail at once, then I reimport them to my shelf and remove them from my Reminder list.

Thanks for the information. That helps a lot.

Putting the ISBNs in a regular text file didn't work when I tried it. In my original e-mail, I said that the first time I tried only 3 loaded. That was from a text file. Now, when 8 loaded, I think that 2 of them had an X on the end. If those don't work, then that explains that number.

I'll give your method a shot. Thanks!

My experience, using firefox, is that when running on a plain text file, it won't import any isbn that ends in 'x' AND only recognizes the isbns on every other line.  i.e. if the isbns are single-spaced, only half of them are entered.  If I put a blank line between each, it imports all of them (well, 99% anyway) except for the ones that end in 'x'.

That's it! That's the last piece of the puzzle.

When I tried to enter 10 as a single space text file, it only gave me 3. It tried to load every other line (i.e. 5 of them), but two of those had an x on the end. So, I only got 3. I couldn't figure out a pattern since the two with the x were in the middle.

When I put them into a mock htm file, it couldn't load the two with an x, so I got 8.

All I have to do is put a blank space between each line and not include any isbn with an x on the end. I can do that.
