I seem to be having what seems to me like a lot of books going lost on me.  It started with 3 books that were ordered in August and were declared lost in September.  Now in October i have 2 books (from same sender i think) that are going to be lost on the 23rd of this month.  Thankfully none of the books that I've sent out have gone lost.  I decided to deposit some PBS money and buy delivery confirmation for all the books that I send out as a precaution for me.  Does anyone else seem to be hitting a rough patch?

When that happens, it's always good to check and see if it could be something on your end. Make sure you have the correct address listed. Perhaps talk to your local post office and tell them you're having a problem. Some specific places seem to be notorious for issues with media mail.

I had to go in and talk to them when I started missing magazines each month ... a different one each time. After I went in, never missed another one.

Earlier this year, I had a problem with Netflix movies disappearing. Three movies in a row (all new releases) vanished and Netflix was very accommodating, but I could tell they were starting to get suspicious. I went out and talked to my mailman (small town, so we know him quite well) who swore he remembered seeing the red envelopes with our name on it.

Turned out he was putting them in our neighbor's box instead of ours and the teens were keeping them. That put an end to that problem and Netflix got the three movies back.

I have had 2 books missing since I started here. One was totally lost  (I guess) because the sender said he sent it out. But the other  sender  said she found the book laying under her seat. So she eventually sent it out. I keep very close track of every book I am suppose to get. I even filled out a theft form with the post office.However,  I dont think they do much about theft  unless many poeple are complaining about the same thing.  I will PM the sender  until I get my book if I have to.

 I try really hard to get people's books out immeditaely and wrapped properly. It's not that hard to do. So I expect the samthing in return.

I just expect people to mail books out within the timeframes set by PBS.  People have lots going on in their lives (work, kids, the constant unexpected) and sometimes book mailing simply cannot be a priority.  People also have different situations in terms of having access to a post office.  As long as people are mailing within the site dictated parameters, I'm okay with it.

On the OP's question:  I have noticed a slight upswing in lost books.  I'm not sure if it's a PO issue, or a PBS issue, or just random.

After participating here for almost a year, I was feeling very smug that I had never had a book "go lost".  Then, all of a sudden, I've had three books go lost in the last month.  I reported this to my local PO.  Why?  Because once I had a problem with Netflix movies disappearing and it turned out that the PO had a new hire who was helping himself to Netflix movies. 

But the other  sender  said she found the book laying under her seat. So she eventually sent it out.

This is why, when I have not received a book within a couple of weeks,  I PM the sender a polite note asking if it may have been overlooked.  I did this once (book under seat of my car) and I was very embarrassed when I found it and sent it off.  This is especially true when there is DC on the book and I can see that all there is in the details is "electronic shipping information received", meaning they printed the postage.  Whenever I inquire on these, those books are usually scanned within the next day or two.

Some members PM me back when they find the book wasn't mailed.  This has happened to me about 4 times and two out of the four excuses were "I gave it to my husband to mail and he forgot".
