I believe this is a historical romance. The heroine is a young British woman who was accused of a crime she did not commit, framed for it, and sentenced to be an indentured servant in the Americas for 9 or so years. At the end of her indentured term, she would be set free. While she is in the colony, she meets a man who she believes is a Native American and scares her to death. Turns out he is only part NA and I think French. He is a trapper/guide of some sort. He befriends her and they fall in love, but cannot marry until she is no longer indentured. I believe his name is François. Eventually, she gets cleared of the crime and I believe the person who framed her is killed, so she is released from her indenture. She and Francois get married and have children. Eventually, he goes off to fight with, I think, Davy Crocket and is killed along side him and Daniel Boone.
I would appreciate any help identifying this book. I may or may not have mixed up the time frames in this story. Thanks for any help with this.
