Does anyone have  a Keeshond? Mine is a 3 year old  rescue. Tthere does not seem to be much literature on the breed.

I would enjoy hearing any ideas, thoughts, reccommendations about the breed.

I had 3 of my own samoyeds ,@40 years worth all togrther. Several rescues, which I trained & then they were adopted.

I thought the Keeshonds & the Samoyed would be more similar.

I welcome all related responses.

Eileen.

We have a 10 year old Keeshond rescue.  Had him about 3 years now.  He is a big scardy cat!  Hates loud (and sometimes not so loud)  noises...he will just bark and bark at it.  Oddly enough the first year or so he hardly ever barked....now...gees...

When I first got him, I did find a few books at our library, but most seemed geared towards showing the dogs.  I think there was at least one that was helpful, but I don't remember the name..sorry.

He is my first dog (expcet dogs when I was a kid - thus not really MINE).

I had a rescued Keeshond for 2 years.  He was an older dog and had been a show dog.  He'd been trained to not eat with out permission (nearly starved to death waiting for someone to tell him he could eat); took a show stance when put on a table, and didn't bark at all until he lost his mind (dementia from old age).  He loved cats and tolerated anything my toddler did to him. He was a wonderful dog and I wouldn't hesitate to own another one except I've developed severe allergies to dogs since his death in 2000.

There are books on Keeshonds. I found the few I had online and through breed groups.  I'm not sure I still have any of them, but if I do come across any I will be posting them.

You can try going to the American Kennel Club's website (http://www.akc.org).  They have all kinds of links and information about any breed you  can think of.

An extra big thank you for all of all responses. THey were so varied.

I have grown quite attached to mine.In general, he is quite well trained, talks alot & his smile brings me great pleasure.

I am traveling on vacation next week. Actually this is the 1st time that I am leaving him [for more than a day or two] in

the three years since I rescued him. i will take a 2nd look at the AKC. I think I did right after bringing him home. I want some thing more "personal eg. theycan be very stubborn; they insist on barking to protect you, rather than the standard size of his xxxxxxx, etc. I will take a look again.

OPEN TO MORE SUGGESTIONS.

THANX AGAIN

EILEEN
