Carol - Sorry you miss your outdoor walking!  I know it's not the same, but have you tried exercise videos that you can do in the warmth and safety of your home?  There are several "indoor walking" videos out there.  Leslie Sansone is generally considered the queen of walking at home workouts and she has many, many videos.  There are other videos for walking inside too, as well as videos for floor aerobics, step aerobics, weight lifting etc.  Debbie Rocker has a couple of indoor walking videos that also come with audio practices for you to do on your outdoor walks.  You may want to check out this site -

www.collagevideo.com/

If you look at the sidebar, you'll see "Leslie Sansone."  If you click it, you'll get a list of her many videos.  You can also enter "walking" in the search box and all walking videos will come up.  You can also search by exercise type, fitness level, etc.  You can see clips of the actual workouts, a break down of the workout in terms of time and exercises involved  and read reviews from other in-home exercisers.  It's a terrific site.

You could also check your local library to see what they have.  They often have lots of fitness videos, especially Leslie Sansone's.  That way you can "try before you buy!"

You may discover you enjoy working out inside as much as you do outside!  Good luck to you!  I hope you find something you like to do as it's important to keep moving!!

I walk when its cold out, I'll even walk in the snow.  When the roads are clear enough I bike, but since the weather's been bad lately I've been walking.  After 4 years of winter track in high school and then 4 years at Binghamton University I don't mind the cold so much.  I just bundle up well and once I'm at pace the excercise keeps me warm.  We have a treadmill in the basement, but I really hate working out inside.

You could always try snowshoeing in a park.  I can't walk the dog on the road during the winter because it is a rural back road without sidewalks, just snowbankings. LOL   So, I snowshoe with him in my yard.  The neighbors may thing I am a little looney but it's great exercise and the dog loves to be out getting his exercise.  8 loops around my little track equals a mile!

I work 12 hrs shifts and plus commute, and plus 3 kids.  UHHHHHH   so busy!!  But to fit in my walks, I walk around the parking lot where I work as fast as I can for 10 mins.  On every break (3 breaks plus lunch).  So I have a pedometer on my phone and it says it ends up being 2.8 miles.  But I know the feeling, sometimes it feels good to be outside!

Carol, feel better and keep up the good work, you'll be walking outside again in no time   =)

I miss outdoor walking, too.  I have ayoung daughter, so during the summer I would put her into the stroller, and away we'd go.  It's too cold to bring her out now, and the sidewalks around here don't get shoveled very well, even if it was warm enough.  I can't wait for spring so we can get out again.  She's old enough now to run around at the park, so I can get even more exercise in (chasing her.)

The last two days I've been out walking I've had people stop their cars and ask if I need a ride.  I must have looked pretty cold.  This is why I need a dog, no one wonders why you're out walking if you have a dog with you.

i have people stop, even in the warm weather, to see if i need a ride.  guess the whole idea of walking because you want to is just to much for some people

I've still been doing some jogging.  I stick to quiet roads without much traffic, but living in upsate NY I am not going to completely surrender to winter.

After recently moving from balmy Louisiana to snowy Iowa, I found I miss the long walks I have with my two little dogs. They just get so cold and I dont want them getting frostbite so I stay inside with them.

I am really looking forward to spring. There is a long biking/walking trail a block from my house. I plan to take the girls out and also get a bike and exercise more. So far, my exercise routine consists of running up and down the stairs at home and shoveling the driveway. :-)

I hope you feel better soon Carol

I miss walking and riding bike.  We go biking as a family and I miss that.  I also have 2 dogs that are getting long nails due to not walking on cement, but ice.  I want spring!!  I miss the smell of fresh cut grass and lilacs.  I plan to do alot of hiking in the woods this summer and want to get the family involved in learning about different plants.  (sigh) When will einter end????  Where in Iowa did you move Wurmtms?  I live in Northeast Charles City and my Mother in law lives right by the bike trail...

After two weeks of 15 degree weather it was 40 degrees yesterday and I felt like spring had come.  Now its back down to 25- >sob<!  Spring is my least favorite season (horrible asthma and allergies) but even I'm ready for the snow to melt.

I also recommend any Leslie Sansone walking exercise tapes. They are simple movements and easy to do. You can get ones for beginners and more advanced ones. If you belong to swapadvd, they sometimes have some of hers listed.

I have a problem breathing well when it is very cold, and yes, I breathe through my scarf or whatever to warm the air.  So, I don't walk like I do in warmer weather, and I usually walk a lot.  I feel like a slug and it affects everything else about my health, such as I eat more when I don't walk, I find a hundred excuses not to do my yoga...

I know how you feel, I can't wait for us all to be able to get out and walk again when the weather starts warming up. We starting walking when my husband got his electric chair august last year and now i'm having withdrawals, lol.  We walked almost everywhere!...and yes, there were people that stopped and asked if we needed a ride or them to do something, lol. They boys can't wait either...and it'll be good for my husband, too. I'll probably be pushin the season and trying to get out and walk before it gets warm enough, lol.

...We took the boys for ice cream once and the girl that brought it out to us asked if we needed help because she thought maybe our car had broken down.........'no we're fine, we walked'    ..lol

Ugh, I missed walking yesterday, but got out today.  I even tried a little jogging again, although the impact of running on the road is bad for my knee.  Running keeps me warmer, but I'm not as strong as I used to be.  Guess I'll try to build up how far I can run bit by bit.
