Does it usually take as long for mail delivery as Alaska and APO?

I just sent out a book today and didn't notice that the address was for Puerto Rico until I was dropping it in the mailbox. If I had known, I would have gotten DC just in case it takes so long that it goes lost.

I sent one a couple of weeks ago. However, I sent it first class. It arrived with in a week.  Not sure if media mail takes longer.

It's a 3 oz paperback, so it went 1st class. Good to hear it didn't take forever.

It does take longer, yes.  The few times I've sent to PR, I've chosen to use First Class to help speed things along.  Not saying anyone else has to do that, of course.

I've sent stuff to PR before, but didn't really notice if it took that much longer or not (coming from California).  Two times I know it was first class, but I'm pretty sure I've had one go media mail before.  I've only had one book go lost in 5 years at PBS, and I know it wasn't that one.  :)

I've both sent and received to/from Puerto Rico and in my experience they travel at about the same speed as any other book sent media mail in the contiguous US. In other words, they take a week or two but nothing like sending a book to Hawaii or Alaska.

Okay, I feel better now. Thanks everyone.

Once I send books out I can't just leave it be. I obsess over them getting there safely. It's one of the big reasons I stopped selling on eBay years ago. The stress was keeping me awake nights. lol

Just remember though that they got hit by Hurricane Irene yesterday (8/21/11), (Category 1), so it might take a little longer.  I've sent to PR and it did only take about a week - was really surprised.  Good luck.  Pat

When I sent a book to the Florida Keys, it took longer than a book I sent to PR. PR is faster that HI and AK.
