LOL, Alice! I need to read it now to mail for the Species buddy swap - you're not completely inspiring me, but actually I kind of was expecting that: Dani is definitely a teenager!

I bought it and couldn't get into it.  It was about a YA and I don't like those.   When you get a certain age, you don't like children books of any age, weather they are infants, toddlers, puberty, teens.  ( my feelings)

OK, by now I read it. Wow, what a disappointment. It's not what I thought..

No 14-yo is THAT interesting! Dani annoyed me as well; but that's the nature of the teen. All her "street talk"  got very annoying, really fast.

All in all, I thought it was too YA, a very simplified story, appealing to somebody, I'm sure, but not me.

I'm not a big YA reader - I have a few series I read, but they're mostly the second series of writers whose adult books I really like (like Kelley Armstrong, Jenna Black, Rachel Caine and Rosemary Edghill; plus Kristen Cashore, who I wish would write adult books) - but I just finished "Iced" and overall liked it. I think probably having the warning here that Dani was going to be brat helped! And she does get some comeuppance over it at some points. It advanced the story arc of "Fever" world some, and set up some future developments, so although I didn't like it quite as much as most of the MacKayla Lane books, I still really enjoyed it.

I see now where the author has said it is not YA; she is ticked becus she thinks people say it's YA because it's a young character.

I thought of it as YA just because it was so simple. Kinda like how you know  "Run Spot run. See Dick play. Dick and Jane run with Spot" is meant for very young children.   Obviously, it's not THAT simple, but it reads more like a book for older kids/teens  than for adults, at least to me.

Rebecca, thanks for the book! I'm very apprehensive about reading this one. I absolutely fell in love with the Fever series. I'm hoping that Dani matures much the same way that Mackayla did. Although she wasn't 14 years old either. I'm really crossing my fingers here.....

Tonya, I think it took awhile before it really hit the level of complexity of the Fever books (but then, thinking back, so did the first Fever book, although not as much). I don't think I really started getting into "Iced" till page 100 or 150 (plus there are bits that are in a couple of other people's points of view, and I found that a little distracting - though it's not normally something that bugs me - because I preferred Dani's viewpoint). Persist; I bet you'll like it even if not necessarily quite as much as the others. And I think it's setting up interesting stuff for future books!

I just picked it up from the library and agree that it takes awhile until the story picks up. Although I didn't like it as much as the Fever series, I'll read the next installment.

As usual, I am late to the party...I just read Iced for this year's challenge and I have no idea why it took me so long to get to it. I've had it for almost a year now and didn't real want to read it bacause I thought the series should have ended with Shadowfever. I cried after that thinking I would never read about Barrons and Ms. Lane again. Wrong!!!!

So KMM is bringing them back and not only that - I've been reading her interviews about Iced and Burned and she is saying that she plans to make Ryodan even hotter than Jericho. Is that even possible??? I'm not going to spoil anything for those of you still waiting to read it, but I know I wouldn't mind getting "the nod" from him.

Plus there is some big mystery about Jo. What is she???

And guys...I "fecking" love Dani. She is a powder keg. I can't wait to see what she does next while at the same time, not looking forward to when my own daughter turns 14 (she will not be reading the fever books until she is much older, but I will keep my hardcopies for her). Karen Marie Moning is one of the most articulate writers I have ever followed, some of her passages just floor me - such passion, such clarity - and her books just get better as they progress. Can't wait till July, 2014!

FYI - Karen posted the first Burned teaser on her website last week, and there are several other exerpts on her facebook page. They don't hint to anything in partiuclar. Here is the link in case you want to check it out:
