I am waiting patiently on the waitlist for my copy but was just wondering if anyone here has read it yet and  how you liked it.  And did you know that it is going to be made into a major motion picture by Miramax?

I have...and you probably don't want to hear this but I didn't like it. I thought it was way too depressing and slow moving. But I'm just not into that type of book. I had such high hopes for the book, and wasn't aware that it was an autobiography of Meyer's life. I am not sure that it translated very well to a fiction story. Maybe others will have a better opinion of it, but my vote is that I didn't care for it.

That is ok. I prefer that you give an honest review. I didn't really know what to expect with her writing fiction. I know other authors who write one genre that I love and then they change to another one and I just can't get into them. Ann Rule is one of them. I love her true crime books but her fiction ones just doesn't hold my interest.  I will read it  when I get my copy and will let you know here what I thought of it. No matter what I think THE PENNY, I will always be a fan of her Christian teaching books. I have learned so much from her because she explains everything so clearly and is a very down-to-earth person.

I agree with you, I always take away from reading Joyce Meyer's non-fiction books. The Confident Woman is just excellent, she is a fantastic teacher.

I just bought this book earlier this week....I will be glad to give me opinion on it after I'm done- and I will be posting it, because I just don't save books, except for a few special ones.

I said I would let you all know what I thought about THE PENNY when I got my copy. So here goes.....

I love the nonfiction books and tapes of Joyce Meyer and  looked forward to reading her first fiction book. Then when I went to start it, I found I  had misgivings. I knew some things about her earlier life and knew that the book was based on things that actually happened to her. I didn't know if I really wanted to go there after all....struggles with physical, emotional and sexual abuse--her mother turning a blind eye to it and letting it go on for so long to both her daughters etc.  Then I decided that I would read the first chapter and see how it went. I wanted to give it a chance. I found the story simply written and engrossing. And then I read some more..... I found that there was not much detail in the disturbing parts and that part of the story was tastefully done. I found the characters became so real to me and I was taken into their world.Yes, there were some low points but there were some high points too. Thankfully, evern though her home life was in shambles, she did have some wonderful people in her life that loved her.

This book didn't lecture like some Christian fiction I have read that goes on for pages and pages sermonizing. Just little "gems " were scattered in the story as Jenny grew in her faith and began to understand what being a Christian was all about. Things like, "That night I realized God doesn't always make something go away because we pray. When we pray He often gives us the strength to stand up to it." and another one.... "God puts His love right in the middle of your path. He drops it right there to catch your eye, to show that He can change your life if you'll let Him."

I am looking forward to the movie. Has anyone heard who is going to be starring in it?
