My birthday - You get free books

Just someone offering a great deal on their birthday month.  Pretty self explanatory when you read her post.

Thanks for the link...

however , I dont understand if she's offering a 4/1 deal , why does she want you to ORDER 3 books and she'll buddy you back some credits ?

Order 3 books from my bookshelf (NOT from the books' description pages !!!) and I'll buddy you back 2 credits (order more, get more credits back)

I don't get that either-maybe she thinks it'll avoid the trouble of more than 1 person wanting the same freebie?  I'd be worried about getting the credits buddied back. It looks like she's been stirring a little bit of trouble by posting in other people's deal threads and questioning why they are bothing to have a deal.

I thought that was a bit odd too.  Maybe this person needs to do it this way to keep the orders straight was my only possible explaination.

She's offering mainly a 3 for 1 deal, thus the order 3 and get 2 buddied back. I don't really get the order and buddy back thing either, sounds like a whole lot of extra steps that can get screwed up. If you look at her profile, she expains it a little more and that she will loan credits to members who don't have enough to order them all. She doesn't really say WHEN she buddies back the credits though. Maybe she was really really bad at removing books shipped in a deal and this was her way of dealing with that.

She has multiple offers out there 2 for 1 in her profile, 3 for 1 and 4 for 1 in that one post - how the heck do you know for sure what you are going to get back when you request books from her?  Definitely a deal you'd want to PM and get more info on before placing any orders.

She might be more familiar with another book swapping/MOOCHing site.  Its programming isn't nearly as sophisticated as PBS and often people return credits/points when offering a deal.

I never ordered from her, but I once ordered from another member who did deals the same way ..  order 3 books and get get 2 credits buddied back.   I was a fairly new member at the time with few credits.  I pm'd her and told her I only had 1 credit to spare as I wanted to save the rest for WL books that I  was #1 on, and would she accept the 1 credit and still send the 2 freebies....   she explained to me that it was easier for her to keep track and that she buddied me the 2 extra credits so I could request the 3 books off her shelf.  Sure enough I received 2 credits from her and proceeded to order the 3 books using the 2 buddied credits plus 1 of my own.

I would pm and and tell her you only have 1 credit, but would she do it the "regular" way and see what she says.  She may say ok, or she may buddy you 2 credits so you can  do it her way.

It sounds to me like maybe she's had mixups before when people would just order 1 book and pm with the freebies they wanted. Maybe the books someone wanted as a freebie got ordered by someone else before she could respond to the PM and get the books removed from the bookshelf or something, so she figures this way all the books wanted by a given person get ordered and removed from circulation right then and there.

Personally I think deals in general sound like a problem waiting to happen. LOL

I agree with Kathy. Although I've had a few headaches where a freebie got requested before I could delete it it's been really fun to offer good deals to people, and I've gotten some good deals myself.

There's been more than one person doing their deals like that in the BB.  What looks more like a problem waiting to happen is him/her spamming the various other deals threads there.  Wonder if anyone reported it.

That's what I was talking about.  I said spamming & I guess it's technically trolling - I dunno what you call it, really.  Damned odd?  People seem to have some wacky ideas about forum use is all I can say:P

why does she want you to ORDER 3 books and she'll buddy you back some credits ?

I've ordered books a couple of times from a member who buddies back credits for the extra books, and it's never been a problem. He structures his deals this way so the high number of orders keeps him on the list of top-50 book traders. If you don't have enough credits to place an order, he buddies them to you.

Other people seem to like keeping the foorprint info with their ordered books .. when you take the books off the shelf and send them outside of a regular order, you lose the history of that copy of the book.

I guess you could call it gratuitous & unsolicited plugging or advertising for deals & products.  Strictly verboten here, I believe, but I'm not sure if it's *technically* that, since they weren't saying something along the lines of  "I can make better deals than this".  But it seemed a little borderline, like that's what they were alluding to.  And there was some response/rebuttal in one of them, saying they were only trying to get some "discussion" going, which had me rolling my eyes a bit.  Deals threads are deals threads, for corn's sake.  Like they couldn't post that commentary in CMT?

I've ordered some deals where the people want all the books ordered and then buddy the credits back. It does prevent several people from wanting the same book,  it makes sure that all of the books get removed from their shelves, and the footprint remains. I've never had a problem having my credits returned - ASAP actually.

I've seen the trolling in four deal threads - I'd be irritated if it were one of mine! You either accept the deal or don't, but it's not the place for commentary, nor question the motives and/or intelligence of the poster.
