Ok, here is my situatuion. I have 2 copies of a book my twins used in a history class last year. I posted one the other day and it immediatly went on wish list hold. I checked the book then and found out 115 people want it. So I waited 2 days for the person to accept the book, which she did. I then sent her a PM tellig her that it was a text book and it had some highlighting in it. Today she finally PMd me back saying she really didn't want one with highlighting and would wait for a clean copy. That's all fine, so I cancelled her order. Then I did something stupid, not thinking, and posted the book again. Of coarse it went on wishlist hold again, to her. I PMd her and told her what I had done and that if she accepts it I will then cancel the order.  Is there any other way for me to take the book off my bookshelf? Also is there any way to post the book and bypass her, I would love to help out some of the other 115 people who want it.?

Have you posted it in the book bazaar?  If the requestor were to cancel it, she would lose her place in line.  If you keep posting it, you'll keep going around in the cycle.

Just to be clear, are we talking about a textbook?

I think if you ask her to put a RC on the book (just a temporary one) you'll be able to bypass--you would do a Does not meet RC, she wouldn't lose her place in line, and it would move to the next person (even though you'd still have to let them know about the highlighting).

Maybe you can PM her and see if she could possibly set a Requestor Condition about the book. This way when it goes through you can decline due to the Requestor Condition and it will then be passed to the next person in line. She can then delete the condition after that.

Yes, having the #1 Requestor put an RC that you can decline will then pass the book request to the next person in WL line, without either of you losing your place (Requestor #1 WL place and Sender FIFO place).

Yes, it is a textbook. I know she can't cancel it, so I PMd her and said if she accepts it I will cancel it, but I hope I don't have to wait another 2 days.

You might also offer these in the Homeschooler's Corner and Teachers Corner forums. If someone wants one, they just need to put it on their wish list then you can post directly to them.

What Cathy said (the PBS homeschool group is active, I've moved several books through that fourm), and also the comments regarding adding an RC.

AND thank you Kathy for doing a proper textbook declaration.  I order books to donate to a local school, some don't matter if they have a few marks and some are unsuitable with markings...all too often the marked ones arrive in my mailbox without warning  sad

I don't believe either of these suggestions is necessary. No one should have to put an RC on their acct just for one book.  And you shouldn't have to offer your WL book up in another way when so many people ARE waiting for it.  The new system allows you to check "not now"  on WL offers --- requestor should do that to this sender's request, then the book will go to #2 in line, while the #1 maintains her postion for the next book posted.

The new system allows you to check "not now"

Good idea, Jeanne.  A requestor can use that option once per wish list book.   She won't be able to see who the book is from though, will she, when she clicks the "not now"?  Or is the PM button there when we are offered a book?  I'm foggy this morning.

Adding an RC is a good option too.  She would turn it on right before accepting the WL book, then turn it off again.  If she's already used her "not now", or wants to save it for later, the RC works great.

Question about the "Not Now" solution...if the requestor used her "Not Now" option for this book, she'll still remain at the front of the line.  What would happen if the next requestor in line refused the book, or let it time out?  Then, since the original requestor is still the first in line, wouldn't the book be offered to her again?  And now she wouldn't be able to choose "Not Now", since she's already used that option.  Seems like the temporary RC is the only sure-fire way to prevent the book being offered to the original requestor again.

I think the temp RC is the better solution than doing "not now".  Even if the book gets accepted by the next person-if someone else posts it with highlighting then the "not now" option will not be there.  If she has an issue with highlighting in text books and will be requesting text books, an RC is the easiest, most expedient way for senders with highlighted textbooks to bypass her.  It doesn't have to be turned on for eveyr book she requests, just the textbooks.
