A child prodigy of the golden age of gospel, the daughter of a world-famous preacher, Aretha was the anointed successor to Mahalia Jackson and Clara Ward. I FELT THAT THIS BOOK WAS MORE A CHRONOLIOGICAL LISTING OF PLACES ARETHA HAD BEEN, PERFORMACES THAT SHE ENCOUNTERED, AND PEOPLE THAT SHE PERFORMED WITH. I WAS LOOKING FOR A MORE SOCIAL ASPECT TO THE BOOK.
