The Art Nouveau movement was a design style that had its heyday from the 1800's until the First World War. It flourished as designers and artists sought to create an art form appropriate for the modern age, and was characterized by an elaborate, ornamental style based on asymmetrical lines and often using elements of the natural world, such as leaves and flowers.
