The first book I ordered through PBS was wrong. It was the wrong version. Although it was the same basic book, it had a different ISBN. So, I added the following requestor condition.

No special conditions. However, please keep the following in mind.

  1. I only want the book I ordered, i.e. it must have the same ISBN as is listed.
  2. I only want books that meet the conditions set by PaperBackSwap.

The two "conditions" were just reiterating what I thought were the basic rules for the site. Nothing more.

Since then, I've had a number of books rejected because of the conditions. And, several of them were rejected with comments like "it has a small amount of water damage" or "it's the wrong ISBN". I had one that was accepted but then canceled when the poster checked the ISBN and found it was different. (She subsequently relisted it with the same, incorrect ISBN.)

I've also received two more books that had the wrong ISBN (approximately 10% of my requested books during that time period). Am I asking too much? Am I wrong in wanting everyone to follow the rules of the site? Please tell me that I'm not alone in my frustration.

-- Tim

Tim, I totally agree with you.  If people can't follow simple rules then they shoudn't be here.

On another note, I read your post above and then I looked at your avi.  Wile E. Coyote looks so pathetic holding that sign, I had to chuckle.  I know your post wasn't meant to make people smile, chuckle or laugh but I just want to give you a hug. :)

Just makes you wonder if people are getting their small children or pets to post the books for them.

Like it is soo hard to post the book with the right ISBN, what are they entering the title to post it. *sighs*

I would stick to your guns and keep the RC, I think I might add some myself to avoid that too. I want what I order not some other book like it.

I like those conditions.  If I was having the same issues, I think I would add them too, but I've been very lucky so far!  (knock on wood :)

What I don't understand is why go through the trouble? It's easy to post a book using the ISBN. On both of the books that I've gotten recently that were wrong, the ISBN was clearly written on the back of the book. It would have been easy to enter the number and post the book.

Instead, they had to search by title or author. Then, they had to select the book from the list. Then, post it. It's extra work.

There's a whole big thing about this (describing how ppl post books wrong)  in the Newsletter for this month that I got a couple of days ago.  If you don't subscribe to the Newsletter it's linked from your "club Communications"--there's a "Newsletter Archive".

Interesting article. I wasn't aware there were so many ways to do it wrong.
