Traditionally the work was done on white or pale ecru linen and the embroidery done in blue or rust tones with a deeper contrasting color for the outlines. Today colors are modified to suit the individual. The models here were done in earth colors, but you should be creative and feel confident to change colors. The overall look of the piece can be subtle with floss close in color to the fabric or strong with greatly contrasting thread.
