The Assize of the Dying is two novelettes by Ellis Peters. Having never read any of her books other than the Felse and Cadfael series, I wasn't sure what to expect. They are vintage Peters! Excellent character development and plotting, precise and evocative use of language contribute to another good read from an old favorite.
