I gotta start paying better attention. Just picked up a book that I received from a PBS swap a while back and realized it is an advanced reader edition. I've started doing a better job of going over any book I receive but I missed this one totally. Oh well, live and learn.

Bruce, we all have experienced that -- picking up a book months later only to find water damage or underlining what was not obvious when I did my cursory flip through when I received the book. It is indeed a case of live and learn!

Yep, had 4 WLed books recently that when I started reading found that there were problems (small ones), but still made the books unpostable.  I even flip through the books 2-3 times before I mark them received and have missed things.  Good luck on future swaps.  Fortunately, it doesn't happen often and I've gotten some really good books on PBS.  Pat

Yep, has happened to me too.  ARC's, water damage AND underlighting have all been things I have missed.  I make sure now to thoroughly inspect before marking recieved.

That's happened to me also. I guess it happens to us all.

On the flip side, it's probably happened that I've missed things before posting books, especially if it's a book that I didn't read or finish reading. If I haven't read a book & looked at every page, then sometimes it's easy to miss an underlined word or two.  Those things can be easy to miss when either posting a book on here or when sifting through one you've received.

I realize that ARCs aren't allowed to be posted here, but in reality, by the time they get to the bound, printed, ARC stage, there is very little that can be changed...I once had an early advanced copy of a book a friend of mine wrote and I caught a small error in brand names, she had to wait until the paperback to change it because the HC was already set and locked.

When it gets annoying is the unbound galley versions which are basically a ream of computer paper with the book printed on it...ARGHHH...and aside from being nearly impossible to carry and read, THIS is the version that has all the typos and wrongness :)

Hopefully you can still enjoy the book, sorry that you can't pass it along for a point!

Amber, that was my thought. I went back and clicked on the profile of the member who sent the ARC and she is not a frequent user of PBS so she probably didn't realize that the book was unpostable. It is in otherwise great condition. Not a big deal, I'll offer it as a WL unpostable book or trade it in at the local used bookstore. Just a cautionary tale, that's all.
