Well, he attempts to describe "the man", rather than the times he lives in, but given the nature of the evidence, a lot about him is speculation. He does a pretty good job of describing the times, though. It is an entertaining book.

Excellent, very readable biography of Augustus. Highly recommend it.
I am still reading this book but find it to be well-written and a thorough account of the life of Augustus Caesar. Recommend if you enjoy Roman history.
