called House Divided by Ben Ames Williams.  The copy she lent me is tattered and falling apart, but she said it is the best book she has ever read!  She is in her sixties and reads alot!  It is a rather lenghy book at over 1000 pages.  Has anyone here read it?  Just curious if others feel the way she does.  I had never heard of it before.

I've heard of it, but haven't read it.  I hope you enjoy it.  Sometimes the tattered, falling apart books are the best because you know they've been thoroughly enjoyed (or eaten by a dog...).

He also wrote the book LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN, on which the movie of the same name was based with Cornel Wilde and Jean Tierney.  An excellent movie.  Pat

Pat,

Thanks for the info. on his other book.  I just looked it up and ordered it from here in hb since it's available.  Since my aunt  passed the other one to me I've been finding out interesting things about the author.

It had gotten great reviews and is listed as one of the books everyone should read in their lifetime.  But a lot of people are getting the title confused with A House Divided.  Completely different book and author.

I'd be interested in finding out if people who have read the book House Divided by Ben Ames Williams, agree or not.
