I used to go to the mall and haunt the bookstores for new releases by my favorite authors. I didn't need a list, I knew their names and could recite their backlist from heart:) When I was finally comfortable with internet, I signed up for every newsletter regarding authors or book sites that I could find. Now I don't have any bookstores within a reasonable driving distance and order anything & everything online, lol. The web offered an abundance of riches, new books in similar genres! Sadly, the quality seems to be diminishing. I read a little bit of everything, but always had some favs, who doesn't?? Here's some authors that are no longer auto buy for me, what about you?? Surely I'm not the only one disappointed by recent offerings, let alone the recent onslaught of re-releases! I haven't given up but I have lost that delicious sense of anticipation:(

Here are some of mine, who's off your list?!?!?

Sherilyn Kenyon

Sherily Kenyon with Dianna Love, huh

Sandra Brown

Christine Feehan

Lori Foster

Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Catherine Coulter

Mary Janice Davidson

Stephanie Laurens

Julie Garwood

Laurell K Hamilton

Linda Howard

Lora Leigh

It would be easier to name who my autobuys are than who's no longer..I cut back on a lot that I still read - I just dont' rush out and buy the book the second it hits the shelf. Iv'e been disappointed in a LOT of authors but sometimes I think my tastes just change. one the comes to mind as being off the autobuy is victoria laurie - adding an expensive hardback to a previously mmpb series did me in - my library has the book and I'm on the waitlist. I'm not so sure anyone is still autobuy for me  except maybe lynsay sands and kerrelyn sparks' vampire series and even those I can wait a bit before buying.

Definitely Lori Foster, for me.  I still love some of her older stuff but I haven't bought one of her new one (and actually read it) in a long time.  I'd also have to add:

Sherilyn Kenyon

Linda Lael Miller

Jude Deveraux

Jennifer Crusie

and possibly Lora Leigh

I wish Lora Leigh would contact me to be her editor. Why can't someone help the woman? So many typos and big fat errors.

Your 2nd post pisses me off, Janet. I wishlisted all the Jamie Holland books and then realized they were Cheyenne McCray. Same with the Wildcard, etc books and Nate, Luke, etc. books. I started reading one and was so mad that it was the same story. What a waste of money.

Lynsay Sands is also off my auto buy.  I'll wait for the library.

That reprinting with a different name?  Boy, is that bad PR.  What a quick way to ruin your career.

I'm with Susanna. I've cut back on new-book purchases in the last few years, some sub-genres don't interest me no matter how many raves the authors/books get here but there still are authors I will buy new.

I've been using the library a LOT the last couple of years - way too much, it keeps me from reading from my own home library. Also, I'm reading more mysteries, romantic suspense and contemporary romance, and urban fantasy and fewer and fewer historical romances so the historical authors aren't being bought.

I belong to the Rhapsody Book Club and get BCE hardcovers of the authors I do still buy new.

Trying to think if I have any auto-buy authors.  Just Diana Palmer.  I buy her new category stuff as soon as it's released.  Her longer novels, I WL the hardcover version to read and repost and either WL the paperback version or I buy it if I'm too far down the list.

I really don't buy anything new.  I'll buy used stuff if I get a good price.  Otherwise, I WL it and wait it out or hope to scoop it up in a game.

I'll probably be getting fewer new books, depending more on the library and PBS, when I lose my ubs. The local WM is good about getting the category romances but isn't all that great with the big books.

It's an awful mixed blessing, but since I'm planning on retiring in 2012 (hopefully the end of June - hurrah) buying fewer books will be a very good thing, and waiting out the WL queue isn't bad. I've moved up the line fairly quickly often enough.

Jenny, I forgot about the other McCray re-issues! Just posted some I thought of at the time! I can't remember exactly when, but I posted some re-releases a few years ago & pbs had plenty of the originals in the system at the time. By the end of the day they were wl'd, lol.

Yes, forgot about Jude Deveraux -  used to love her stuff.

Susanna, I agree! Also gets me worked up when reading series & all of a sudden the next comes out in hc!! What's the deal with that?!?!?

I stopped reading Diana Palmer awhile ago. I realize authors use certain formulas, but seriously, how many naive virgin, tough older man stories are there?? Hard to keep that theme fresh:)

I don't really have any auto-buys anymore.  I have way too many books to have any autobuys.  I do still buy new books but either as I come across them on the clearence shelf or if I'm ready for the next book in a series that's WL and my library doesn't have it.

I don't preorder any books.  I no longer buy several books ahead in a series.  I just don't have the space to do that anymore.

I hate to say it, but Lynn Kurland is no longer on my "must buy" list......I really miss the earlier books.

Jayne Castle/Amanda Quick

Lori Foster

Linda Howard

The first and the third are just too frickin similar from book to book and (a far graver sin) aren't convincingly romantic/passionate anymore.

I'm like Mary L.  I may buy a new book, but there is really no one that I automatically buy just because they've published something new.  Some of it is financial, and some is the reality of the TBR piles calling my name.

I used to auto-buy Jude Devereaux.  But now I don't even read her books anymore.   I just lost interest.  Her contemporaries seemed to have too many instances of characters who just showed up out of the blue and gave the main character a long involved and not always pertinent to the matter at hand back story.  And I stopped liking her "historirals" when I realized that most of the time, you coudn't pin them down to an actual time period - just too generic.

I just discovered Linda Lael Miller about 6 months ago, but she is more library/pbs for me than autobuy.

Megan Hart is totally off my auto buy.  I love her older stuff, but the last 4 or 5 books have totally disappointed me.  I haven't given up on her yet, but who knows?  Maybe the next book will go either way, back on auto buy or "forget it."

I won't buy Debbie Macomber anymore because I can always get it at the library if I'm willing to wait a few weeks for a new release.

Lori Foster has never been auto buy.  I will pick her books up at the ubs or here.

I just discovered Rachel Lee and I am trying to get her backlog here at PBS.

I guess I just don't have many auto-buys.  PBS has totally spoiled me!  laugh

Nora Roberts.

I've had her latest Chasing Fire on my TBR since it was released but haven't even peeked inside.  I own everything she's written as NR (I don't read JD Robb) so this is actually kind of sad.  I'm sure I'll still read but she's not an autobuy anymore.

Sherrilyn Kenyon

Lori Foster

Charlaine Harris

Rachel Gibson
