Help center says will be available soon--then all you have to do is "tweak"

Per Help Center

"If I don't bother to rank my Wish List, that means I won't get any Wish List items!  I can't believe I have to fuss with this."

Not at all!  You can use the auto-rank feature (soon to be available) to let the PBS system determine the best ranks for your books so you get as many of your Wish Listed items as possible.   You can auto-rank and then tweak the rankings from there as you like.

Well, I'm not pleased at all. Quite frankly, there are several that I've been waiting several months for. Worked my way up from the 100s and 200s and I'm finally within 10-15 of receiving several of them and now I have to rank those books and could (mostly likely will) get booted from those positions?  Nope. Not pleased at all.  And those are the few that I've even bothered to put on my wishlist when the list is that long. Usually I don't bother.

How am I going to know whether to rank them myself or have PBS do it? I don't think you have any way of knowing and it's a crap shoot as to whether you'll end up in a worse position, better position or about the same as you are now. Not fair.

Not pleased at all and probably will stop using that portion of PBS if it works out like others have talked about on here.  I'll rely more on the friends and contacts I've made here to get wishlisted books posted to me directly. But, for all I know it might turn out to be pretty good so while I'm not pleased with the change I'm attempting to remain open-minded. Honest! :)

I personally can't wait for the new WL to come out. I think people are overreacting.  I would really like to just put my WL on hold right now and still be able to get book orders.  But no, I have to put the whole account on hold and take it off to post WL books.  I hope there's no red flag sent if you take your account on and off hold too many times.  Because mine has been coming on and off hold a couple times a week so I can either mail a swap book using the Mail to a Friend option or so I can post a WL book.

There have been numberous bugs and problems with the ranking feature on SwapaCD as well. It seemed like every time I tried to reorder my WL, it would break. Finally, tech support told me that it didn't just *seem* to break - it *did*. Turns out it can only handle so many reorderings a day before the program conks out. I didn't keep track, but reranking 50-100 items is about all I remember being able to do.

I love all these sites, but I am absolutely against adding this feature to PBS. It won't drive me away, and I'll still like all of Robert's site (and still be grateful to him for his and his coders' hard work, as well), but I simply disagree that it's a good idea.

Especially when the coding isn't robust enough to handle actually being used.

I'm another one that doesn't like the upcoming change, although I love PBS too much to leave because of it.  I want ALL my WL books, and cannot  "rank" them and frankly do not think the system will be able to do it for me.  Yet, since they are combining WL and RL, I'll have so many books on there, I'll need to let PBS rank them and then maybe try to tweak it.  But just too much work, and as I said, I want ALL the books I have on WL.  And not fair to have some newbie jump ahead of me in line on a book that I've waited for MONTHS on WL, but PBS ranks me low on the book and newbie put it at #1 spot...

I'm going to my present WL before the new WL starts...[1] delete all but the most important to me...[2] let  the auto-rank  sort them ...[3] then tweak it to suit me.

Or do as I do now--put them on and forget it. I have hundreds of unread books...so I don't care when I get a certain book.

Okay, it looks like I've missed some announcement or something.  I knew that they were talking about making this change--which I think is an absolutely, incredibly stupid idea--but I didn't know that it was going to be happening soon.  Where did the information about this show up?  Thanks.

Personally, I've deleted nearly my entire wishlist in preparation for the "new" system.  I'm buying most of  the ones that were on it new, and when I've read them, I'll probably post them directly to my buddies' wish lists rather than to the FIFO system.  My way of saying that I don't approve of a new member getting a wishlist book sooner than someone else who has had it on their list much longer just because the newbie ranked it higher on their list.  Blech.  And I don't want to watch my place in line for a wishlist book go up AND down depending on the whim of others either.

Dang I missed this!  Chalk me up as one who doesn't like the system they use over at swapadvd.  Now it'll be here as well?  Great.

I don't understand deleting your wish list because you dont' like what is coming.  What good does that do you?  It's like cutting your nose off to spite your face.     I don't see it as hurting anyone except yourself.   Am I missing something important here?   I belong to swapDVD and have had no problems.   I just let the site do my ranking for me and I never worry about it.  I keep getting DVD's that are on my wish list.   Of course, I don't watch my wish list here everyday either.  I just put them on and let them be.     It's not like I'm sitting here without books to read.   It really won't matter to me if I get a wish list book this week or next week.

I keep seeing the abbreviation RL. What is that?

Maybe not, but how about this year or next year?  Or maybe the year after that?

RL is reminder list.

Just a note about "new member", which keeps coming up. It won't necessarily be a "new member" that jumps ahead of you - it can be any member - even the oldest of the old (I quit looking in mirrors because of that very phrase) - who "jumps" ahead of you when they WL a book.  New member, old member, either one can out-rank you...or you can out-rank them.  (I am not looking forward to the change, either, the current method suits me fine.)

I agree with you Cozi.  They'll get here when they get here.  In the meantime, maybe I'll finally make a dent in my TBR pile!  LOL

Next week or next year.   Doesn't really matter since I will be having other books coming and going during that time.   It's not like I only have ONE book I'm wishing for.

the whole wl issue is so old. i think they have been talking about it for over a year. i'm not taking anything off my wl. i actually forget about the changes that are supposed to come sometime this decade until i see someone bring it up on the boards.

the only thing i have done to prepare is make an account for my mom that i manage. i love her but i cant put her books above mine, she likes books with long waiting lists.

so no i don't like the new wl idea. i never have. maybe it will grow on me maybe not. i think what i don't like is its too complicated. and it looks like i will need to log into pbs on a regular basis. but we will see......eventually
