In addition to his autobiography, Elder Pratt wrote numerous pamphlets and tracts, books, hymns, poems, and articles, each designed to promote faith and enlighten the minds of the Saints and investigators.
Much of his life, which he describes as "a truly eventful one," was spent in missionary labors and travels. He wrote long, descriptive letters and reports of his experiences, and these writings, many of which were incorporated into his journal, provide colorful insights into the early proselyting efforts of the Church.
Autobiography of Parley P. Pratt was first published in 1874. In 1938 it was republished with added genealogical information. The introduction to that edition sums up well this important publication: "As a volume to promote faith it is one of the strongest, and will do much to stimulate the missionaries, teachers and members of the Church to greater faith and activity." « less
