I appear to be logging out very soon. I'll log in, go away for about 1 hour, then refresh my browser page on PBS, to find me waiting at the "Logging in" page.

Is there a way to keep me logged in for 8-10 hours at a time? I looked at my account Settings page and did not see a setting for this. Even ebay and Paypal can keep you logged in for 24 hours, and those are high security sites.

PBS sessions last for about 30 minutes I think. If you use the "remember me" checkbox on the login page, then it writes a cookie on your machine and although you still go through the login process you don't have to do anything yourself to make it happen. When you click refresh you'll see the "waiting for login" page and then you'll see the page you were on again.

If you click Logout or delete cookies from your browser, then you won't be remembered next time you come back.

This is a security measure implemented by PBS this spring. There is no way around it.
