If I had to sum up this book in one word I'd say "thorough." I've been on a metaphysical path for some time now(20+ years) and have been drawn to deep thinkers such as Gurdjieff and Madame Blavatsky and subjects such as quantum physics. If you want to side step all of that dogma then read and reread this book until you understand it. Almost the most complete tool necessary for one's personal journey, the other tools being "the self" armed with discipline and the desire to take action. This read is fairly simple but not for one sitting if you want to actually metabolize it. Comes with written meditations which would have been better on a CD included with the book. Otherwise a must have for any seekers library.
