I emailed an author this weekend to praise a book I just finished. I had some questions about the storyline to ask too. I mentioned that I rarely buy books new,

I just swap them. I had made an exception for her books because I enjoyed them so much.

She sent me a really great email back, answered all my questions and told me she was touched and honored that I would buy her books.

She asked for my physical address and told me she is going to send me an ARC of her next book, WOW!! I am so excited.

I'm purposely not telling you WHO the author is because I dont want her overwhelmed with emails from people thinking they are going to get free books.

My purpose for posting this is to encourage people to contact authors they enjoy, or that write something you dont quite understand, You might find an author as cool as this one.

That's nice to hear, it encourages one to keep writing even though you don't always get a response!

I've had some positive interactions with authors as well - I emailed Alan Brennert (not a romance author, but a wonderful writer all the same) with specific comments and got a real e-mail back discussing what I'd actually written. I was thrilled, lol.

The only romance author I ever wrote with a complaint was Cheryl Holt (I''d gotten ahold of one of her books where the hero is trying to sell his daughter to a pedophile because he didn't believe she was really his daughter) and I got a form response.

That's fabulous!  I had emailed an author a while back - Renee Ryan - and she promised to send me her newest book.  It came in the mail yesterday.  smiley

If I find an author that I really enjoy I will e-mail and let them know.  I have gotten so many books that are signed by the authors I have a special keeper shelf just for them.

When Emily Giffin's Something Borrowed came out, I sent her an email.  I got her second book, Something Blue, free when it came out and then an ARC of thie third book (can't remember the title).
