Biscayne is historical fiction based on the people who pioneered Miami out of the jungles of the Florida shore. It begins in the early years of the past century when Clara Reade, a young midwestern widow, leaves her home with all its disappointments and heartache to begin again in the souhern wilderness. The characterizations in the book are believable and the descriptions are vivid. The story of survival and triumph is uplifting. There is romance and adventure, and I found it to be a real page turner. Having always enjoyed pioneer stories, somehow I had never associated this with Miami,Florida.
