We are starting back in about two weeks, so last night I had my annual "oh, no, I'm late!" nightmare. In my dream, my husband lent someone my car and then gave a buddy of his the truck. I couldn't get anyone who came to the house to take me to work and for some reason, I could NOT dial the phone correctly! I was beyond panic. Right before I woke up, I took a red rope (how is that for symbolism) and was strangeling - my sister that I don't get along with - not my husband who was responsible for the whole mess! I told my husband that Freud would have a field day with that dream - although it seems pretty clear...husband is usually the reason I'm late, if I'm late...but I like him a lot better than my sister! Anyone else dreaming about school? This one was better than last years, though, where I was naked at school and no one noticed! Or cared! |

I always had the "back to school" nightmares when I was teaching. The naked in the classroom, can't find my classroom, kids not behaving or listening or the worst; all my books have been stolen or strewn around the library or just disappeared and I have a class coming in in 15 minutes! I was a school librarian for 29 years in a k-5 school. I have had other dreams where I am in college and realize toward the end of a semester that I have missed attending a class! Or one where I cannot find the room in which to take my final exam. A few years ago I read an article that mentioned such dreams were the sign of a consciencious person. These dreams take place before stressful situations or ones that we are really totally prepared for, but worry about anyway like beginning of school, new job, filing taxes etc. You are not alone and most likely an excellent teacher! Now if only the stores would put off advertising "Back to School before mid August........ |

I've never had the back to school nightmares, but I can never sleep the night before the first day of school. My mind is always racing with a thousand questions and stray thoughts. |

We start preplanning on Monday (Aug. 4) and students come on Aug. 11. No dreams yet, but I came to the forums to look for some ideas for novels for ninth graders taking World Geography - books like Kiss the Dust or The Clay Marble. When I saw your post I decided to check in. I usually do have some wierd dreams, but not until the weekend before the students arrive. Best Wishes to all teachers for a successful year! --Rebecca |
