I'll tell you about mine, and maybe you'll tell me about yours, and hopefully we can laugh together. ... Mine started at about 4:30 this morning when I was driving to work. Couldn't barely see the road, let alone the waters that I swear jumped right outta the creek and grabbed my car. ... One minute, I'm dreaming about that cuppa joe I'm gonna have when I get to work and the next, I'm rocking in rapidly rising water with a stalled engine. ... Got rescued by the fire dept, but my car's still in the creek. ... I'll consider myself lucky nonetheless. ... Rode home in an ambulance that dropped me off at the door. ... Gotta love small towns where ambulances dub as taxis. ... True story. ... Gonna have the repair bills to prove it.

Oh Genie, that's awful!! I'm so glad you're okay, and laughing about it to boot! Love, Vicky <---who did close to the same thing a few years ago, which is how she got a new car, and the undying ridicule of her closest neighbors...

I'm so glad you're ok! I know that scary feeling well. I live on an island, and our single road to town can flood when the marsh tide gets high enough. Usually that is during normal high tide, when the moon is in a certain phase, and there's been a lot of recent rain, and all of those other natural alilgnments of the stars. At least 3 or 4 times a year we're trapped on one side of the marsh or the other for a while. Last summer I spent over two hours in the Wendy's parking lot waiting for the tide to ebb so I could get back home. One night there were no police barricades or warnings, so I was toodling down the road like nothing special was going on when my car was suddenly slooshing through at least a foot of water. GAH! Where did that come from?!? Scared the crap out of me, and that was only a little flood. My car stalled, but luckily I was able to get it started again and push through to home. Give yourself a nice treat and curl up with a good book to escape for a while!
ETA: I hope your car insurance can help you with the bills! Last Edited on: 1/31/13 2:36 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Thanks, y'all. Truly, no one was hurt and that's what's important. ... I just got back from a look at the car after they towed it. They had to wait until the water crested. Mud all the way into the glove compartment. That car ain't never gonna run again. Fortunately, I also rescued my MP3 player, which was playing The Kitchen House (chap 40), when the waters hit. At least, I can finish the story! LOL!
