I posted a book a week ago that had a small wish list (7 wishers).  I always post first at PBS to see if anyone is wishing, then I post on BM if there are no wishers over here.

So, I exclusively posted this book here knowing it had a WL.  I had 3 requests...  #1 was a time-out and 2/3 were both almost 48 hours before they accepted... and then each had super-picky RCs.  There is no smoking in my house, but I do have a cat, even though she doesn't have access to my book closet.  However, these RCs were practically asking for a brand new copy straight out of the bookstore, and this is a 5 year old book that has been previously traded.

So I got tired of waiting and posted it on BM (while it went to yet another Wisher).  I wanted to take it off of PBS entirely but I couldn't figure out how to do it since it was still pending.  It was snapped up on BM within 30 minutes and a few hours later, the next wisher requested it with no RC.

I pmed her why I was canceling it explaining what had happened previously with the book and told her I was sorry, but I still feel really bad.

Should I have waited?  What would you have done?  I have a guilty conscience for listing it on BM knowing it hadn't gone all the way through the WL over here.

Live and learn. Posting on both sites can cause problems. Probably shouldn't have posted to BM knowing it was tied up in the WL here. RCs are not that common so the odds of hitting another RC, let alone one you couldn't meet, were pretty slim.

You should have waited until it went through the WL line. It's frustrating to wait-but no more frustrating than to have a WL book offered to you and then have someone cancel it because they put it on another site.  If it was pending here, it should not have been posted on Bookmooch.  I have books posted on both sites. If it's a WL book here, I don't post it over there and vice versa.  I check both sites out before I post a book.

I can't say any more than Mary & Melanie other than unless you know you can remove a book from your shelf, don't post it anywhere else.  while it is annoying, best to let it go through all of the WL and then remove it from your shelf and post it on BM or wherever.  I post my books to 2 other sites but only after I know it isn' a WL book here.  even then I might way a day or so just in case.

I'm joining with the rest of the posts, I post to a couple of sites, and I always check here first to see if it is WL'd and if it is, I will not post book to the other sites till it is no longer a WL book.

Here,as with most things in life, patience is a virtue.

You can tell if a book is on WL here before you post it.  Just put the ISBN into the search box and pull up the record.  It'll say right there if it's on WL and how many are wishing.  That way, you can see before posting it.

I know, that's why i feel bad.  I do usually wait, but after waiting almost 6 days to have a timeout + cancel it twice because of two different people having super picky RCs, i was really frustrated.  So maybe the chances are slim, but i guess i'm lucky.  I just feel bad.  i wish there was a way to cancel it out of PBS once it goes into the line. It wasn't until the 4th person that this happened.  I know people complain about having that happen to them, but i guess they don't get so frustrated they go to list it on another site.  (!!)  I am just trying to clear off my shelf and get rid of clutter so it was frustrating to have to wait that long.  I guess I need to learn a bit more patience!  It is pretty frustrating to get RCs that are so picky I would need to buy a book at the store and mail it off without it ever visiting my house, and then on top of that to get 2 in a row!

If you get caught in the PBS WL hold line you can contact the PBS Team and they can cancel it out for you...I just recently had to do that.

I am new and confused by all the abbreviations. What is BM? I know WL is wait list and I wanted to ask how does that work? Do you get an email when one becomes available?

Diane, BM is Bookmooch, which is another swapping site.  On the wish list, yes, you will be notified when a WL book is available for you.  The best thing you can do is to put your WL books on autorequest- that way, when they are posted into the system, your request will be automatically generated.  Otherwise, you will simply be notified that the book is available, and you will have to make the request from your main account page.  Check out the Help Center for more information- everything you ever wanted to know about PBS is there.

Welcome to PBS!
