This is the memoir of a life inside the Westboro Baptist Church from Laura Drain, whose parents cast her aside in the name of the church. I was horrified by the beliefs of the church, which is really a cult run by one family that âallowsâ others to join if it is God's will. I felt for her, as she was thrown away by her own family and shunned by the only friends she ever had. It was eye-opening to say the least. I just would have liked to learn more about her life when she moved to Connecticut - how she learned to live on her own and thrive.

I just finished this book , in under two days. I feel emotionally and physically drained. I can't believe things like this happen today, and thank the author for her courage to share her story. While I didn't like all of the ways she shared, I really enjoyed it- and hope that people can read it with an open mind, and learn and grow in their spirituality.

There is something voyeuristic about reading this book. Lauren Drain very thoughtfully describes how she became a member and how thoroughly the church controlled her and her family. I found bits and pieces contradictory, and I wish there had been more time spent on her process of recovery- that is really a very small part of the book.

A bird's eye view inside of the hated Westboro Baptist Church. Well written, no holds barred view of life inside of this extremist religious sect. Sometimes it was hard to keep reading, but I was cheering Lauren on by the end. I would love to read more about Lauren's life after Westboro. I can't imagine the scars growing up inside of such a hate-filled group would leave.
