As you can see from the below thread, there seems to be a technicality that prevents me from just using the system to offer the player with the book.

The book doesn't require the toy...but I can't offer the toy for a credit, and I'd hate to throw it away.

So, new offer: Barbie book + any other book on my shelf = free music player & the books will get shipped first class.  Essentially this is now a freebie offer with 2 orders.

My 10 year old has just made the momentous decision to 86 everything Barbie from her room.  I just posted the book on my shelf ( ISBN: 0794412246).

The music player can't go media mail, but I'm more than happy to ship it all first class with an additional credit for the player or if you order an extra book or two off of my shelf. edited due to below thread.

Happy Weekend!

You can't request 2 credits for one book.

If you aren't willing to let it go for one credit then you should unpost it.  (and actually it's not really postable)

(from the help center)

Can I offer/ask more than 1 credit for a book?

No.

  • A bound book "costs" 1 credit at PBS (no exceptions)

  • An audiobook "costs" 2 credits at PBS

    • some "children's-length" audiocassette items cost 1 credit each

Offering to "pay" (or asking a requestor to "pay"--see below) more than "PBS price" for a book is not permitted.

Why?

  • If the book is Wishlisted, offering more than the PBS "price" for the book may allow members to leapfrog over others in the Wish List for the book. This obviously is not fair.

  • Even if the book is not Wish Listed, a "free market" system could lead to "bidding" for a book, and auctions are NOT permitted on PBS.
  • One reason is that auctions are subject to state laws, and as PBS members belong to various states, this could be illegal.
  • The other reason is that we want all members to have a fair chance to get books on PBS.  Pitting those who have lots of credits to spare against those who don't have a lot of credits at the time goes against the very spirit of PBS--the fair sharing of books. Everybody equal.

Asking for more than "PBS price" for a book is considered bookselling

  • Bookselling is not permitted at PBS

  • If you feel that your book is too valuable (or too costly to ship) to be swapped for "PBS price", you should not Post it here.

If this is a matter of postage cost (your book is heavy), remember that you can also request a "heavy" book with the credit you get for sending yours--so it all evens out

posting guidelines

Not allowed:

  • Anything that is not a book
  • Anything that contains advertising
  • Advance Reader Copies (also known as ARC s, Review Copies or Uncorrected Proofs--these are not the final versions of books)
  • CD-ROM books/e-books (books that must be read on a computer)
  • Burned copies of audio books
  • Xerox or otherwise unoriginal copies of books
  • Unbound pages
  • leaflets or pamphlets or booklets* without ISBNs (other members complain at spending a credit for these)
  • Books that require supplementary non-media materials (non-media materials cannot be sent by MediaMail)
  • Pornography (sex manuals and erotica are allowed, hardcore pornography is not allowed)

ETA ...I didn't mean to come off as rude or anything.  I just wanted to let you know about it before you got in trouble for it.    You can unpost the Barbie book and offer it as an incentive....Example....Order 3 books off my shelf and get this free Barbie Book.

Sarah,

The book is postable but has an additional TOY.  I am offering to send the TOY for an additional credit.  I will send the book for one credit, per PBS guidelines.  Thanks for the heads up though.
