When Lord Westfield finally shows up after making his bethrothed, Penny Goldwaithe, wait for 13 years, it isn't to wed her, but to try to end the bethrothal made by his father and hers. To his surprise, she is no more eager to wed him, handsome and titled though he is, than he is get "leg-shackled". Circumstances force their long delayed marriage anyway, and then the fun begins. Lighthearted and whimsical in parts, passionate and romantic in others, with a touch of villainry from a stepbrother, the plot plays out smoothly. Both hero and heroine are easy to like. Each chapter begins with a quote from a book called "Arranged Marriages", adding another touch of humor.

Barbara Metzger is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Her books are often humorous, fast paced, and full of twists and unexpected turns. There's no explicit sex, which is refreshing. You can only take so much explicit sex before it gets boring. Metzger is never boring. Some of her earlier books are smaller than normal; I found those easy to read in a day. They're hard to put down. I'm now collecting copies of all her books.

What can i say as ever Barbara has outdone herself moving and funny a very good read
Great book for a quick read.
One of her best books. Gave to my sister to read. Finished in one day and she posted it on PBS. Already requested!
This is a gentle comedy that rocks along happily down the street to tell the reader about a woman who was betrothed for 13 years before her fiancee' came to reclaim her. Only, he didn't come to claim her, he came to pay her papa back her dowery, so Viscount Westfield did not have to marry her.
Penny, in the meantime, has been gathering anger, while her intended has been sowing wild oats. She is so angry with West that she has decided never to marry him -- no matter what. Her father, a greedy banker, however, has other ideas about dissolving the agreement. He comes bearing a special license for an immediate marriage. After blackmailing his daughter and threatening his future son-in-law, the marriage takes place.
As with all of Barbara Metzger's books, humor is in abundance. This is a fun bit of fluff to read anytime life is getting too grim.
