I found this book extremely suspenseful and enjoyable. It is one of Rinehart's best. If you like older mysteries, you definitely need to give this one a try.

A Rinehart classic. Someone is trying to frighten Cornelia Van Groder to death but she doesn't scare easily. Neither unearthly sights or unnerving sounds can budge her from her country mansion.

Miss Cornelia Van Gorder hears unearthly sounds but sill will not leave her isolated mansion she shares with her niece, maid, butler and a young man who may be an embezzler. She does get a chance at a deadly game of detection with The Bat, who is a thief. Inspiration for Bob Kane's Batman. Suspenseful with humorous characters. Not her best but worth a read!
