This book has all sorts of projects to complete and most require you to provide things from around your house. Unless you get really lucky, you likely won't get the items that originally came with the book which are the base of each project. So to do each project, you may need to purchase these items yourself... The items that are provided with a brand 'new' book are (according to the book): battery (C cell), film canister with lid that can hold a C cell battery, magnet wire, 3 - 6" insulated wires, 1 - 3 1/2" insulated wire, 1- 1" insulated wire, LED light bulb with wires, cable tie, 2 alligator clips, propeller, pulley, 2 straw sections (thick walled?), buzzer with wire connections, and a small motor. Projects include: snow machine, nervous noodler, swamp boat, bugzilla, 'switches, tricks, and traps', lie detector, rollamathing, the impossible project, & the amazing submergible, with additional sections on history, trouble shooting as well as 'far out ideas & crazy extensions'. I'm not as thrilled with the info as I'd hoped to be, but a child might find it interesting and fun. I have yet to see a child's reaction; plus, it would depend on the child.
