When the Port Authority made plans for the Bayonne Bridge, it asked the designer for a structure that would be both functional and beautiful. The bridge, designed by Othmar H. Ammann, is both. It was a triumph of modern design, overcoming significant construction challenges including crossing one of the world's busiest shipping channels, the Kill Van Kull, where port commerce could not be interrupted.
Bayonne Bridge: A Landmark by Land, Sea, and Air celebrates the Bayonne Bridge on its 75th anniversary. It is generously illustrated with drawings and photographs, most of which were selected from the Port Authority's own archive.
