This book is a must have for lighthouse afficiandos. The author has completed research (with pitures) of lighthouses that are located within 1.5 miles of the lighthouse (easy walking distance) OR lighthouses that you can actually stay in. I've visted several that are listed in the book and especially enjoyed East Brother Light Station located between San Pablo and San Franciso Bays in California. Our stay in this actual working lighthouse (a beautiful Victorian light station)was in one word amazing. The views were breath taking- as we were a 10 minute ride by motor launch on a one acre oasis. This was truly a special vacation, with warm hospitality, (great food), pleasant conversation, breath taking views and a retreat from the busyness of life.

This book gives details and information on architecture, historical information on the lighthouses, driving instructions, and things to see and do in the area. It also gives snippets like- Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast located in Lincoln Count, Oregon is the most photographed lighthouse in the United States. And for those who like to take moonlit walks, The Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast in Coos County, Oregon was voted as one of the Best Places to Kiss by Country Home Journal. For those traveling the Pacific Coast on a budget, Pigeon Point Lighthouse in San Mateo County, California, provides an inexpensive place to stay with a million dollar view.

When my kids are just a little bit older, my goal is to finish seeing all the lighthouses in this book.
