a really great one by child with likable characters that make you laugh. Very similar in style and characters to Katie Macalisters. If you like Maclister's stories you will like this one.

This is apparently the first in a [at least] two book series. It entertains but is not a keeper. If you read her Fiends series - it has much the same feel. I don't like the fact that it basically has a cliff hanger ending [a personal hangup of mine, delayed gratification is annoying]. The characters are enjoyable but I thought a touch overdrawn - Maggie spent a lot of time acting like it would all go away if she ignored it and Culhane did a lot of looming while doing his 'mighty Fae warrior knows best' routine. I felt a frequent urge to smack him.

Freelance artist Maggie Donovan, with fairy or "Fae" blood in her background, does not turn a hair when she finds her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend being eaten by a she-demon. She makes it a good cat fight and manages to keep hitting the creature with its own crystal pendant which breaks open and spreads fairy dust on the creature which obliterates it. Maggie takes much of what happens next in stride, including visits from a beautiful warrior fairy called Culhane, who tells her she is destined to defeat Mab and become the new queen of the Fae. Maggie's sister is seduced by and kidnapped by another warrior named Quinn, leaving her daughter Eileen with Maggie. Maggie's best friend Claire admits she is a witch and has visions of the future which show Maggie in danger. Lots of sexual tension as Culhane tries to direct Maggie before she is discovered by Mab. He neglects to tell her he is Mab's consort in bed as well as in the throne room and Maggie explodes. Nice main characterand events move swiftly. Four stars.

I enjoyed Child's story, the first in A Queen Of the Otherworld series. The characters are likable, the plot was decent, but I wished for more action considering this was a novel with Fae warriors, a witch, demons and an Evil Queen. There was too much interior dialogue and some of it became repetitive. I thought the author's take on the Fae world was interesting, but there could have been more details about this Otherworld and the characters could have done more things besides think or brood. The ending was anti-climatic and too short. This was a cute story and a quick read, but over all I thought it could have been more.

Not bad, but apparently I'm not the only reviewer who got tired of Culhane's attitude.
