A profound story of one women's courage in overwhelming challenges in Tillamook, Oregon

Territory in 1861. A beautiful discription of the area mountians and Sea Shore. A love

story involving the lives of the early settlers and the hardship they faced.

This book is truly an inspirational book. It gives the story of Clarissa Yeager who leaves her home in Massachusetts in 1855 by marrying a man she did not love in order to escape a man who was attempting to force his attentions on her. They travel across the country to the Pacific Northwest to Oregon. There her husband abandons her while she is pregnant and leaves her with no money and the only protection of neighbors miles away. Clarissa takes a heroic stand to save her homestead for herself and her unborn child and by doing so she discovers she must do more than just face an uncertain future. She must battle the demons of days past. The premature birth of her baby during a mountain rainstorm jeopardizes the lives of her and the baby but she discovers the kindness and love of neighbors and a gentle man who is also battling his own ghosts of the past. This story shows how courage, love, faith in God, and kindness of friends overcomes the most overwhelming of challenges for survival when all seems lost.
