I marked a book "mailed" yesterday (Sunday) because the system was all like "final notice" and the last time I didn't mark it the transaction was cancelled.  I was planning on mailing the book today.  So, I've got everything ready and I'm putting it in the bubble wrap and notice that the first couple of pages (not the reading part of the book) have yellowing on them.  I honestly don't recall this being on their before but now that I see it I don't want to send the book and have the requestor RWAP me because she did have conditions.  I have PM'd her but she has not responded and if I wait too much longer the p.o. will be closed.

Any suggestions?

And every single one of the last 5 transactions I've had have RC's on them.  Is that unusual?

If they're just yellowed from age, it's fine. If it's liquid damage, it's unpostable. I wouldn't worry if it's just a bit of discoloration on non-text pages.

if the yellowing is due to age, it is postable. Mail away.

if she has a RC against yellowing, then you will want to ask PBS to cancel the order. You can't do that once it is marked mailed (and she can't ask PBS to do it ... you have to ask).

You can click on the "Books I've mailed" tab and look at her RCs again, if you need to re-read them. I just checked and they still show on my "Books I've Mailed" books.

PBS allows 48 hours to mail after you mark it mailed, so if the PO closes just get it out tomorrow.

That's odd.  When I go to "Books I've Mailed" and click "Show Requester Conditions" it won't pull up.

Unfortunately this is not an old book so something must have gotten on it.  Otherwise, though, it is in great condition.  Completely readable and the pages w/the yellowing don't appear warped like water damage.

...so something must have gotten on it. Then you should ask the Team to cancel the request if it looks like it is not from aging. Stains are not postable. You can offer a book like that in the Book Bazaar, explaining the damage, but a book with a stain shouldn't be sent through the system. Many books are still very readable, but still don't pass the postability tests on PBS.

If you are having problems meeting the mailing deadlines, make sure to select mail later option that gives you up to 7 days to get the book marked as mailed.

Melanie,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I always choose the later option and get the books mailed out on time.  To be perfectly honest, I got bit by my dog this week and just couldn't get things together to have it ready to mail today or I would have seen the yellowing earlier.  Also, the yellowing wasn't on the book when I posted it or else I wouldn't have posted it.

I guess I should then go ahead and cancel the transaction without waiting on the requester?

Yes, you should, since the book is unpostable.  You'll need to contact PBS using the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of any PBS page and ask them to cancel it for you, since you already marked the book mailed.
