The first installment in a wonderful new series by Lilian Harry that I found very enjoyable. Reminiscent of Miss Read's books of life in a small village after WWII, the series features Stella Simmons, who was a character in the April Grove series, when she was a child, during the war. Now it is the year of the Festival of Britain, 1951, Stella is grown up, in her first year of teaching in her new home of the village Burracombe in Devon, right on the edge of Dartmoor. Lots of very human characters to care about, and I can't wait to continue reading this series.
