I'm on DVD but I really don't do much there.  My daughter is not quite ready to part with most of her DVDS yet.  Most of the time I just buy the ones we want to keep new.  But I have received several older WL DVDS there to replace our VHS copies.

I do all 3. I don't send out much on the other two, I use my excess credits here when my wish list items come up on the other sites.

I'm not on either of them.  I'm not really a DVD watcher so I stopped buying them.  Don't want to part with what I have though.  I'm not really a music listener either (except the radio).  I should joing the CD site and get rid of some of the few CDs I have.  Someday.

I am on SwapaDVD.  I use my extra credits over there to get DVDs for our children to watch.

I use PBS the most.  I LOVE this site and go through a lot of books.

I just joined DVD. I had a few box sets that I didn't want to keep, so onto the site I went. Pretty cool that you can transfer credits around and the sites all look about the same, so they're easy to navigate.

I'm also a member on the other 2. I mostly buy on those sites.  I have tons on books but jusst recentlly got a cd player in the car so I use credits from here to buy cd's sometimes.  I'm on here constantly. I check the others maybe once a wk.

I'm a member of all three. I've done around 5 transactions on the dvd site, but just don't have enough I want to part with and the ones I do are ones with many in the system already. I've never had any activity on the cd site. I have a ton of cds, WL ones too, that I could get rid of, but I would have to order a cd myself first to be able to transfer those credits over here or to the dvd site. Too much hassle for me right now. I don't want any cds, so until they don't make receiving at least one cd a requirment for credit transfer so I can use the credits on something I actually want, I won't be putting my cds into the system unfortunately.

I didn't know about that rule Amee.  I guess I'd get on a short WL for a CD or find one without many posted in the system so that I could repost it as soon as I got it and send it back out.  If I did join the CD site, I'd just transfer the credits over here.  I don't need any more CDs either.  I don't listen to what I have.

I didn't think about doing that actually. I just thought, I don't want any! lol

I might look and see if I can find something with a short WL because really, I can't think of anything I want right now that is already released. I don't really care to wait on a long WL either until I can transfer credits.

I'm on all 3. I don't use CD very often, but I use DVD all the time.  It seems I'm always low on credits over here, but always have at least 100 over there. I love that I can transfer credits from one site to the other.

I'm on Swap a DVD, but I'm not very active, especially since I got a Netflix subscription for Christmas. I post DVDs I get as gifts and won't rewatch or workouts that I'm sick of doing.  I am on the WL for a few TV series and workouts, which are things I keep around.

I'm on all three.  Definitely here most of the time.  I'm a TG here and at SaDVD.  I actually do the least swapping on SaDVD.  I only send CDs, but I get a request once every month or two there.  I haven't had DVDs posted in a long time.  DH doesn't want me getting rid of any.  LOL

Amee.....my understanding is you cannot transfer your free credit from SwapaCD to one of the other sites, you should be able to transfer your other credits.  Unless they changed the rule.

ETA: once you receive a CD you would be able to tranfser the free credit also

I use SwapaDVD but I haven't been very happy with it. There was this 80s TV movie that I watched on YouTube one day... thought it would be fun to have the DVD. So I request the DVD. The cover art and publisher look legit.

What I get is a totally different cover (with no shots FROM the movie on it!), different publisher, and the world's worst bootleg-quality DVD. Seriously, the version I watched on YouTube was better, at least the sound matched during the whole movie.  BUT the site combines UPCs, and the sender did correctly list the DVD. The cover art and publisher or whatever do not have to match.

I do some more research, and it turns out it's not technically a bootleg, it's one of those crappy movies that basically anyone can buy the rights to and make. So it's LEGAL but it totally sucks. Had I seen the artwork of the actual copy I was receiving, I never would have requested the DVD because it is immediately obvious that it's not legit.

I explained all this to the staff at SwapaDVD, and they refused to do anything about it. I wanted them to remove that UPC from the site, or at least un-combine it with the possibly legit version, but they refused. So anyone requesting that DVD will think they are getting a legit copy, and instead they will be tricked into getting something basically unwatchable.

PBS is WAY more flexible and easy to work with. People at SwapaDVD didn't seem to give a **** about the quality of the products on their site as long as they are "legal" and the DVDs are not scratched.

So if you stick with getting major motion pictures from there you should be fine, but if you are into more obscure stuff, BEWARE!!

Nope, if that was the case I would have done it and just left the free startup credit on my account.

From the Help Docs over there:

Note: In order to transfer credits from your accounts,  you will have to have used your initial credits for the site you are transferring from.

So that means I'd have to use that start up credit first to transfer the others.

It goe on to say:

This is because the initial free credits we give are gifts to encourage members to try out the site. We do not intend for the startup credits to be used on our other sites.  And in order to transfer your initial free SwapaCD credit that you earn for posting 10 CDs to your account, you will need to deposit swapacd money to your account.

I don't know if this means I could pay a fee to transfer credits without using it or what. It's a little confusing, but I assume they mean in order to use the initial free credit you'll have deposit money to your account.

I am a member of Swapa DVD, I have sent out about 50 DVD's - mostly ones that my kids no longer watch.  We have gotten several as well, it has been great for me.  I haven't had any problems with the DVD's I have received.  It does move rather slowly there, we had to wait a long time for some of the popular movies.

Looks like to request anything on the CD site, you not only need credits but SwapaCD $$ as well.

That's a bummer Amee....I didn't realize they changed how they handle transferring credits.  frown

Yeah, it's only 50 cents a transaction which I'd be fine with if I actually wanted anything.

I'm not really sure why they have a transaction fee over there. I just now looked through the Help Docs and the Questions forum and no one seems to know. Seems odd to me since they don't need it for either PBS or SwapaDVD. Just another weird thing about the site, I guess.

ETA: I finally found it after searching the Questions forum. The first page contained a topic on the fee, but the answering members were very vague/maybe didn't know about the other thread. Someone once sent a question in about it (and why TPTB at SwapaCD didn't put it in the Help Docs baffles me a bit since most people, I would assume, want to know why they're being charged a fee) and TPTB said it's basically there to pay for the upkeep of all three sites.
