This was a really good thriller. It is dark and brutal but has lots of twists and surprises. This is my 2nd book by this author (the first being THE MAID'S DIARY which was quite good, too). I will seek out more by this author.

Trinity Scott has just released the first few episodes of her new true crime podcast. Fourteen years ago, teenager Leena Rai was found brutally murdered. Her high school guidance counselor, Clayton Pelley, confessed to her murder. Now Trinity wants to talk to the people who investigated this case. Former detective Rachel Walczak has no intention of being interviewed. She wants to forget all of the pain caused by this case. But Trinity has talked to Pelley who now says that he did not kill Leena. Rachel wonders if he is lying or if the real killer is still out there.

This story is told from the point-of-view of both Trinity and Rachel. It is also told from two timelines. Rachel describes the murder investigation and the steps that led her to arrest Clayton Pelley. In the present, she listens to the podcast and the interviews, wondering if the wrong person was arrested. Trinity tracks down the people who were at the same party as Leena on the night of her death, asking them to recall everything that happened.

There are lots and lots of characters in this book. Each one of them has a secret and each one of them is a suspect. There were lots of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Overall, another good mystery from Loreth Anne White. My rating: 4 Stars.

This is a story about a small town with a dark secret. That secret got under the skin of the town and slowly festered throughout the years.
The book starts out quickly with the murder of a young teenage girl named Lena. With a confession to the murder, all seems well. Fast forward decades later when a true crime podcaster starts looking into the murder. The pot gets stirred and the truth starts to bubble to the surface.
The mystery behind the story isn't really too hard to figure out. It wasn't what I thought the strong part of the story was. The strongest part was it showed how one murder could affect every single person surrounded by it. From the police officers to fellow students and the family. Good read that kept me involved.
